ATD Audio Visual acquires Christie Spyder X80

ATD Audio Visual acquires Christie Spyder X80 for its true native 4K/60 processing capabilities and operator-friendly user interface

World’s most powerful video processor put to immediate use at corporate event

PHOENIX – (December 10, 2018) – ATD Audio Visual, a full-service event production and rental company in the Bronx, New York, has taken delivery of a Christie® Spyder X80 multi-screen windowing processor. The Spyder X80 will primarily be used by ATD Audio Visual for projection mapping, Fortune 500 corporate and governmental presentations and conferences, fashion shows, and concerts and festivals. The system will also be available to rental customers.

Included in the transaction were two pairs of Christie Terra Transmitters and Receivers, which enable the transport of 4K at 60Hz over 10G Ethernet networks.

“We were looking for a video processor that could handle the type of work we do, be easy to use and be futureproof,” says Or Israel, ATD President. “When we saw the X80 at LDI it was our first opportunity to explore the system hands on. The demo showed us that Spyder provides all the possible solutions we need, such as interfacing true, native 4K at 60Hz inputs and outputs over a single cable, processing power to handle all our current and future needs, and simple, operator-friendly user interface – that even allows us to control cues on our media servers. So it was a no-brainer to make the purchase.

“It can be very challenging and very expensive to send 4K at 60Hz over a single fiber cable over long distances up to 400 meters,” continued Israel. “So acquiring Christie Terra Transmitters and Receivers also solves many of our problems.”

Having taken delivery, ATD put it into immediate use for a corporate event in Manhattan where it drove a 32 x 18-foot LED wall with native 4K inputs and close to 4K resolution. The Spyder X80 is earmarked for a big projection mapping project in December.

“When we do multi-projector mapping, which is one of our strengths, it’s very important to have the Spyder’s redundancy and failure-proof performance,” says Israel. “The ability to switch seamlessly to Spyder’s internal still store on all monitors is a big asset. Spyder gets us very close to a 100 percent reliability rate. When we use Spyder there is much less stress for live events.”
